Army Chief Attends the 17th Buddha Rashmi Bathi Geethawaliya - 2024

The 17th ‘Buddha Rashmi Bathi Geethawaliya’ was held in Colombo Buddha Rashmi Vesak Zone on Sunday (26 May) evening with the participation of a distinguished gathering.

A large gathering inclusive of clergy, Mr. Somarathne Vidanapathirana, Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, Mrs. Chandani Wijewardena, Senior Additional Secretary to the President, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, Vice Admiral Priyantha Perera RSP USP ndu psc, Commander of the Navy, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa RSP VSV USP rcds psc, Commander of the Air Force, Mr. Mahinda Gunarathne, Senior DIG of Police of Western Province, Mrs. Janaki Liyanage, President of Army Seva Vanitha Unit and a large crowd of devotees witnessed the occasion.

The event began with the arrival of distinguished invitees together with Ven. (Dr) Kirinde Assaji Thero, Chief Incumbent of Hunupitiya Ganagarama Viharaya. The proceedings commenced shortly, featuring devotee songs, and musical and dramatic presentations.

During the event, the officials of Sampath Bank gave away certificates to all the 26 schools, who participated in the Buddha Rashmi Vesak Lantern Competition and officials of Presidential Secretariat presented cash prices and certificates for the first three places. Moreover, cash prices and certificates were awarded to the 4th place to the 10th place in the open category by the officials of Presidential Secretariat.

Afterwards, a group of invitees including the Army Chief was invited to give away, certificates and cash prices for the first three places in the open category of Buddha Rashmi Vesak Lantern Competition. Sri Lanka Artillery secured the third place and Sri Lanka Armoured Corps achieved the 6th place in the open category.
