The Diyawanna Annual Vesak Zone organised by the Ministry of Defence, Tri-Forces, and Independent Television Network (ITN) commenced on 23 May 2024.
A distinguished gathering including clergy, General Shavendra Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, Chief of Defence Staff and Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army participated in the programme.
At the outset, the event commenced with the lighting of the oil lamp by all the distinguished guests and the Chief of Defence Staff symbolically inaugurated the event by switching the Vesak lanterns as the Chief Guest.
The Vesak Zone, covering Denzil Kobbekaduwa Mawatha and the Ministry of Defence Road in Battaramulla, featured specially made lanterns and other displays showcasing expert craftsmanship of the military personnel.
After the ceremony began, all invitees witnessed the cultural event conducted at the decorated platform followed by the visit to look at Vesak lanterns made by the Armed Forces personnel. Also, a display of Bakthi Gee (Songs of religious devotion) was performed to increase the attraction of the event.
Government Officials,Tri - Forces Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and a large crowd of devotees took part in the event.
