22 Infantry Division celebrated Sinhala and Tamil New Year on 25 April 2024 at the 22 Infantry Division Headquarters under guidance of Major General P.A.M Peiris RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 22 Infantry Division.
The festival was organized with the intention of developing reconciliation and harmony between the Sinhala, Muslim and Tamil people residing in Trincomalee area. The GOC of 22 Infantry Division graced the festival as the chief guest.
The festival featured traditional aesthetic events and various games such as marathons, selection of the ‘Avurudu Kumara and Kumari’, tug of war, pillow fighting, kolam rata drawing competition, eye-placing on the elephant, bun eating, coconut scraping, etc.
Major General S.A Kulatunge RWP RSP VSV USP psc, the Commander, Security Forces – East graced the musical night as the chief guest.
Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, Police Officials and a large crowd of multi-ethnic civilians in the area participated in the event.
