‘Sri Lankan Airlines’ Offers 5 kg More Free Baggage Allowance for Tri-Services at Commander’s Request

The national carrier, ‘Sri Lankan Airlines’ in a positive response to a request made by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army when he was holding office of the Chief of Staff has agreed to increase the free baggage allowance for overseas-bound tri-service personnel by five more kilograms for selected destinations.

A representative group of the ‘Sri Lankan Airlines’, together with Mr Jayantha Abeysinghe, Regional Manager, Sri Lanka and Indian Ocean Region, Mr Deepal Pallegangoda, Government Travel Manager and Mr Chamara Hettiarachchi, Sales Executive (Government Travel and Public Affairs) this afternoon (26) called at the Commander’s office at the Army Headquarters and entered into an agreement with Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Commander of the Army to this effect. On an average, a four-digit number of Army personnel every year leave for overseas training courses, seminars, workshops, etc in several countries.

Considering essential accessories and requirements that need to be carried with Army personnel in addition to their personal baggage of free 30 kg when they proceed for overseas training courses, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva made this request to the ‘Sri Lankan Airlines’ for increase of free baggage quota for Army personnel when he was serving as the Chief of Staff of the Army before the mid of August 2019.

‘Sri Lankan Airlines’ accordingly has offered this free baggage allowance of 5 kgs, effective retrospectively from 30th July 2019 for all tri-service personnel proceeding for training in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, China, India, Pakistan and other South Asian destinations.
