The overnight 'Pirith' chanting that commenced, coincident with the inauguration of the 2nd Phase of the ‘Deegawapiya’ Dagoba restoration project in Ampara on Monday (10), got underway on Sunday (9 July) evening with the objective of blessing the construction work further.
Major General U. D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc, Commander of the Security Forces-East was invited to the inauguration of the chanting as the Chief Guest who in turn invited the Maha Sangha to begin the blessings offering the traditional tray of betel.
General Officers Commanding of the 22, 23 and 24 Infantry Divisions, Brigade Commanders, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and a gathering of devotees witnessed the chanting ceremony, attended by the Chief Incumbent at ‘Deegawapiya’, Ven Mahaoya Sobhitha Thero.
