‘Nawaloka Virusuwa Sarana’ Privilege Card to Offer Extra Health Benefits to Army Members & Families

The introductory launch of the ‘Nawaloka Virusuwa Sarana’ privilege card that offers a wide variety of sophisticated and most modern health benefits to Army personnel and their family members took place this morning (23) at the Nawaloka Hospital premises, attended by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest, Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) and Dr Jayantha Dharmadasa, Chairman, Nawaloka Group of Companies Private Limited.

The ‘Nawaloka Virusuwa Sarana’ privilege card saw its birth as an initiative of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit’s President, Mrs Janaki Liyanage, which was afterwards conceptualized by Dr Aruna Dammika Karunarathna, a veteran social activist in order to turn it to be a privilege for war heroes and their dependents. Colonel Nalindra Mahawithana, Colonel Co-ordination at ASVU supported the implementation of the project.

The day’s agenda began with screening of brief video footages of the ASVU roles and the proposed ‘Virusuwa Sarana’ project. The concept was explained by its architect, Dr Aruna Dammika Karunarathna who attributed the project as a tribute to the unmatched roles, being performed by Army personnel throughout the country.

This special card enables Army personnel and their family members to receive considerable discounts and other prioritized facilities for expensive medical investigations, therapeutic practices, consultations, sophisticated and advanced medication and surgeries which are generally not available at other places.

At the inaugural ceremony, the first few ‘Nawaloka Virusuwa Sarana’ privilege cards were symbolically handed over to Army personnel by the Commander of the Army. The occasion was joined by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army, Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit and Dr Jayantha Dharmadasa, Chairman, Nawaloka Group of Companies Private Limited, Major General T.J Kodithuwakku, Chief of Staff, Major General C.D. Weerasuriya, Deputy Chief of Staff, Mrs Shiromala Kodithuwakku, Vice President, ASVU and Mrs Danusha Weerasuriya, Secretary ASVU.
