‘Fox Hill Chess Fiesta - 2019’ Win Goes to Navy

The first-ever Inter-Institution International Rating Team Chess Championship, ‘Fox Hill Chess Fiesta - 2019’ got underway recently at the Marksmanship and Sniper Training School (MSTS) at Diyatalawa.

32 island-wide teams under open, women’s and para categories competed in the 4-day long championship tournament (30 Aug - 2 Sept).

Sri Lanka Navy team won the Championship (open category) whilst Peradeniya University and The Team ‘A’ of Sri Lanka secured second and third runners-up slots respectively in the Open event.

The awarding ceremony took place on Monday (2) at the Sino - Lanka Friendship Auditorium at the Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa headed by Major General Mahinda Mudalige, Commander, Security Forces - West graced the occasion as the Chief Guest along with Major General Aruna Sudasinghe, Director General Army Sports as the Special Guest.

The veteran songstress, Weeramatha, Visharadha Sujatha Attanayeka participated in the awarding ceremony as the Guest of Honour along with Mr Menaka Liyanage, Director, Securatec Lanka (Pvt) Ltd as a special guest.

Moratuwa University team (Women) and the Peradeniya University team (Para) secured Championships under specific categories. The Ragama ‘Ranaviru Sevana’ team was adjudged the first runner-up in the Para category.
