‘Army Para Games - 2018’ Ceremonially Kicked Off

More than 700 differently able Army War Heroes of our times began showcasing their talents in the ‘Sri Lanka Army Para Games - 2018’ inaugurated at Diyagama Stadium, Homagama this morning (19).

Major General Dampath Fernando, Chief of Staff as the Chief Guest on behalf of the Commander of the Army graced the inaugural occasion of the tournament, being competed by sportsmen and women of all Regiments in the Army.

Major General Rajeewa Wickramasingha, Vice Chairman of the Sri Lanka Army Para Sports Committee received the day’s Chief Guest before the events got underway.

Wheelchair Basket Ball, Badminton, Cycling, Wheelchair Marathon, Archery, Weight-Lifting, Volleyball, Volleyball (sitting), Beach Volleyball, Table Tennis, Cricket, Swimming, Wheelchair Tennis, Air Rifle Shooting and Athletics are among major sports that have been organized during the three days covering 72 track and field events with athletic and relay events, taking the centre-stage.

Army Para Games - 2018 will continue till 21 September and ends in a colourful closing ceremony. This is the 21st ‘Army Para Games’.

Dialog Axiata PLC has provided the sponsorship for the fourth consecutive year for the Army Para Games as an encouragement for Para sports.

Previously known as the ‘Army Disable Sports Meet’, saw its birth in the year 1991, but it was renamed in 2010, to be called the ‘Sri Lanka Army Para Games.’

Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Deputy Chief of Staff, Senior Officers, Secretary to Sri Lanka Army Para Sports Committee and a gathering of Army personnel were associated with the inaugural day.Best Nike Sneakers | Footwear
