Prior to the finals, disabled War Heroes’ Inter Regiment Chess Championship Tournament got underway at the ‘Abhimansala 3’ at Pangolla during 17-19 November.
Chairman, Army Chess Committee, Major General Swarna Bothota, Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and Commandant, Officer Career Development Centre at Buttala as the Chief Guest at the invitation of Brigadier I.H.M.T.H Senarathne, Director Rehabilitation and Colonel A.H. Wijegunawardana Commandant ‘Abhimansala 3’, Pangolla graced the closing event, together with several Senior Officers. The championship was conducted under individual and group categories.
A few more than 22 War Heroes from Abhimansala 2, Abhimansala 3 and Ranaviru Sevana - Ragama competed for the supremacy and the group championship was grabbed by the ‘Abhimansala 3’ players. 2nd and 3rd places went to Ranaviru Sevana - Ragama and Abhimansala 2 respectively.
In the individual championship category, Corporal R.D.D.S Dasanayake of Abhimansala 3 after competing against 22 players won the first place. 2nd and 3rd places went to Sergeant D.G.M Premalal and WO II K.W.A Samantha respectively.
In the final Championship, held on Thursday (25), ‘Abhimansala-3’ Chess team won the Championship Trophy and received awards from the Chief Guest.
