‘Wanni Innoveta-2016’ Draws Huge Crowds to A’Pura

‘Wanni Innoveta-2016,’ an exhibition that stirs innovative, inborn and talented skills, inherent among the troops, serving the Wanni region which was organized by the Security Force Headquarters (Wanni), got underway during July 29-31 at the Anuradhapura Municipal ground.

Innovative inventions and creative skills of Wanni troops in the fields of technology, education, mechanism, arts, culture, science and the ilk, were on display for thousands of visitors to the exhibition which saw its birth as a novel project of Major General Boniface Perera, Commander Security Forces- Wanni, for which the Commander of the Army has given his blessings.

Dr U.G Rajapaksha, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Management, Social Sciences and Humanities, Department of Management and Finance at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and Dr Mahesh Edirisinghe, Commissioner of NERD opened the Exhibition respectively on 30 & 31 July as Chief Guests after Major General Perera inaugurated the Exhibition on the first day (29) as the Chief Guest.

Forty four new innovations, crafted by troops in Divisions, Brigades and Battalions under command to the Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) were on show to the public. Undergraduates of the Rajarata University and school students in the area visited the site largely.

Wanni Sith Roo,’ an art exhibition that offered openings to both military personnel and all students, including university students also took place on all three days, where the children with artistic talents were allowed to make drawings on following thematic concerns: Child Protection and Gender abuses, Prevention from Drugs, Traffic accidents and Renal diseases.

General Office Commander, 54 Division, Major General  W.B.D.P Fernando welcomed the invitees on behalf  of the Commander Security Force -Wanni and accompanied them to review the exhibition. General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks witnessed the arrangement. A large number of school students and civilians too were present to see the exhibition.
