Zambian Commander at AHQ Welcomed to a Red Carpet Reception

The Zambian Republic’s Army Commander, Lieutenant General W.M Sikazwe psc DIP (DSS) MA (DSS), presently in Sri Lanka on a five-day long goodwill visit, enhancing bonds of bilateral goodwill, cooperation and understanding further between his and the Sri Lanka Army, arrived at the Army Headquarters this morning (24) to a red carpet welcome and called on his Sri Lankan counterpart, acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva at the Army Headquarters.

At the entrance to the Army HQ, the Zambian Army Chief was received by the Commanding Officer, Colonel Indika Perera of the HQ Battalion before he was greeted to a traditional Guard Turnout, presented by SLSR troops.

A few seconds later, Major General Chula Abenayaka Adjutant General at the Army Headquarters received the visiting Zambian Army Commander. The Parade Commander afterwards reported the parade to the day’s visiting distinguished military head and invited him to review the Guard of Honour, presented by SLSR troops with their Regimental Trunchen. Amid ceremonials, he took the salute of the parade from the special dais in conformity with military traditions. Captain. Kasun Dahanayake was the Parade Commander.

At the entrance to the Commander’s Secretariat after honours, the Zambian Army Chief was cordially received by his Sri Lankan counterpart, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army who afterwards introduced his Sri Lankan Principal Staff Officers to Zambia’s Lieutenant General Sikazwe. All of them after a while posed for a group photo and added memories to the three-star Lieutenant General’s visit to the new AHQ.

Talks that followed at the Commander’s office largely centered on bilateral cooperation, exchange of training programmes and matters of mutual interest to both organizations. Exchange of mementos, signifying the importance of their interaction, took place towards the culmination of cordial interactions before the day’s distinguished visitor left his compliments in the VIP book as Lieutenant General Silva looked on.

The visiting Zambian Army Chief extending his best wishes to the Sri Lanka Army afterwards took leave of the Army HQ.

His delegation of this landlocked South African country is comprised of Brigadier General Simusandu, Defence Attaché High Commission of Zambia, New Delhi, India, Brigadier General G Ng’andwe, Director General Training, Colonel Leonard Peter Daka, Deputy Director General Policy Doctrine and Strategy, Colonel Jethrow Chipili, Director Zambia Defence University, Colonel T Banda, Chief Instructor Staff College, Lieutenant Colonel M Shapwaya, Commandant Special Forces School and Captain M Mulenga, Aide-De-Camp.

The Zambian Army Chief arrived here on Friday (21) afternoon on a five-day-long goodwill tour, along with a six-member military delegation. During his stay in Sri Lanka, the Zambian Commander of the Army is expected to call on HE the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Hon Prime Minister, Secretary of Defence, Commander of the Navy, Commander of the Air Force and a few more tri-service senior Officers.
