Youngest 4 Star General in the Army Accorded Guard of Honour


General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army who was promoted to the rank of General, received honours from the troops at the Army Headquarters during a special parade at MoD grounds on Monday (17) morning.

He is the youngest General in the Army to have received this rank while serving as the Commander of the Army.

General Jagath Jayasuriya  on arrival at the parade ground reviewed the Guard Turnout at first after Commanding Officer of the Headquarters’ Battalion received him.

Major General R.M.D Ratnayaka, Chief of Staff later on welcomed him and conducted to the special dais. General Jayasuriya inspected the Guard of Honour afterwards. The Parade Commander, Captain Lahiru Edirisinghe of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) accompanied the Commander.  

Seconds after that, the Commander from the special dais, took the salute of the Guard of Honour, presented by 50 SLAC Army personnel in keeping with military traditions.
