'Yoghurt' production project of the Palaly Army Cantonment that collects funds for Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU)-run numerous welfare schemes moved into a more spacious building with all facilities on Saturday (18) as a result of initiatives taken by the ASVU and the Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna.
The ASVU President, Mrs Sujeewa Nelson, the brainchild behind the project was instrumental in facilitating the production unit to a larger building in close coordination with the SFHQ-J as a stimulus to those who are working in this welfare gesture with the objective of further expanding the ASVU welfare roles for Army personnel and their family members.
Such welfare projects that have been carried out in the past few months include grant of free financial assistance for completion of partly-built 44 houses, construction of five new houses, purchase of one land and 7 bathroom sets, medical assistance to 18 Army personnel or their family members, award of hearing aids, medical accessories, laptops, sports items, scholarships, conduct of ASVU pre schools and courses, like beauty culture, floral decorations, bee production, cultivation of orchids and spices, sales outlets, production of bakery items, grant of scholarships, etc
Jaffna troops-erected this new building, sponsored jointly by the ASVU and the Security Force HQ-Jaffna was opened on Saturday (18) by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID - 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), currently in Jaffna.
The new facility expects to multiply its production, being carried out by the troops of the 5 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC).
