Wounded War Hero in Visuamadu Laid to Rest amid Honours

During a funeral with full military honours, attended by a representative group of Senior Officers, Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment Officers and Other Ranks, fellow-soldiers, villagers and family members, the late injured War Hero, Corporal H.D.D Prasanna of 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment who passed away as a true patriot of the country a few days ago, was laid to rest at his native village in Hali Ela on Saturday (24).

Attidiya ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’ (MSM)-resident injured War Hero, Corporal H.D.D Prasanna of 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment who had been under recuperation and rehabilitation for over 11 years after he sustained serious head injuries on 29 September 2008 while fighting in Visuamadu against LTTE terrorists, succumbed to his injuries on Thursday (21).

The War Hero, Corporal H.D. D Prasanna (32) from Hali-Ela who was the first one to pass away at the MSM turned permanently deaf and remained bed-ridden due to the serious nature of LTTE mortar blast injuries, sustained during the final phases of the Humanitarian Operation.

Several shrapnel pierced his head and caused subsequent cerebral palsy and loss of his speech, but the worsening health condition that ensued over the years with complications prompted his admission to the Colombo Army Hospital for treatment a few days ago where he was pronounced dead.

Representing the Commander of the Army, Brigadier Ajith Senadeera, Deputy Director Directorate of Rehabilitation, Representing Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI, Colonel Anurudda Solanga Arachchi, attended the military funeral, together with the Colonel Jeewan Gunathilaka, Commandant, Mihindu Seth Medura, Lieutenant Colonel K.P.C Dharmasiri, Commanding Officer of the 11 SLLI and a gathering of 11 SLLI troops and his fellow-soldiers who were in the battlefield with him many moons ago. Soon after the final religious ceremony (Paanshakula) at his residence was over, the coffin draped in the National Flag was placed on the gun carriage in conformity with military traditions and carried to the graveyard. After reading of the Part 1 Order, in which his heroism, bravery, patriotism and gallantry was recalled to memory and commendation, late War Hero's insignia and medals were delivered to the bereaved mother of the late War Hero.

As dusk fell amid a gun salute, presented in his honour by his Regimental troops and playing of the Last Post, he was laid to rest in the presence of a large gathering. Directorate of Rehabilitation, Adjutant General’s Branch and the SLL1 Regimental HQ closely coordinated and undertook all funeral arrangements in close coordination with the deceased’s family members.Sports Shoes | Womens Shoes Footwear & Shoes Online
