Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C), taking a new initiative towards production of organic fertilizer in the Army to keep off poisonous elements, wanted Army personnel, engaged in cultivations be informed of the production process.
On the directives of Major General U.A.B Medawela, Commander, SFHQ-C, a workshop to this effect was held at Pallekele 1 Rifle Corps Headquarters on Monday (27).
Mr Thilak Kandegama, an expert on organic farming and use of organic fertilizer during the one day workshop at Pallekele imparted knowledge to all attendees.
With the objective of expanding the use of organic fertilizer in the Army during agricultural projects and contributing to the national efforts, this workshop was launched as the first phase under the planned programme for the Army in the future.
Major General Medawela attended the occasion as the Chief Guest. Officers of the Board of Livestock, 130 Army officers and 152 other rankers, representing different Regiments, Units and Establishments where cultivation work is performed, attended the workshop.
