With the objective of introducing and promoting basketball among students in Kilinochchi and Jaffna areas, a workshop on basketball playing was organized on Saturday (4) at the basketball court in the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN).
Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, SFHQ-KLN took the initiative in this connection, assisted by the National Basketball Team and Hambantota Basketball Team.
22 school teams participated in the workshop and selected players were awarded certificates and valuable sport items towards the end of the day.
Meanwhile, recently enlisted woman soldiers from Kilinochchi received keys for 20 new houses built for them on the same day. These new houses, built by the Army are situated in Kilinochchi, Thunukkai and Pooneryn areas.
The Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) at Army Headquarters was generous enough to donate necessary furniture to those new houses, following directions from Mrs. Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB.
Hon Minister Tissa Karaliyadda, Parliamentarians Hon Namal Rajapaksa and Hon Murugeshwaran Chandrakumara, Governor for Northern Province, District Secretary of Kilinochchi, Commander, SFHQ-KLN and many senior officers attended these occasions.
