Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps ‘A’ team and the ‘B’ team of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps fought the finals in the Inter Regiment Netball Team Championship 2023 held at Panagoda Army Indoor Stadium.
Major General U.D. Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc, Commander, Security Forces -West graced the final match as the Chief Guest on Friday (22 Sep).
The Championship tournament was completed by 6 netball teams inclusive of 1 team of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC), 1 Team from the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (SLAMC), 1 Team of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP),1 Team of the Sri Lanka Army General Services Corps (SLAGSC) and 2 Teams of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) (‘A’ and ‘B’ teams) respectively.
The Commander, Security Forces - West was welcomed by Brigadier J.K.R Jayakody RWP RSP the Center Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps before the day’s proceedings got to a start.
The grand finale between SLAWC ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams got underway amid cheers and applause and the championship was grabbed by the SLAWC ‘A’ team after a neck to neck encounter with a score 28/16.
The chief guest distributed championship trophy and merit awards. Brigadier P.A.M. Peiris, RSP USP psc, the Director of Sports and Brigadier J.K.R Jayakody RWP RSP the Center Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps Officers and Other Ranks witnessed the finals.
