Woman Carrying Coconut Shell Explosives Reveal it All

VAVUNIYA: THE SPECIAL TASK FORCE (STF) yesterday (2) recovered a massive cache of arms and weapons from a house belonging to a Sinhalese in Ambalangodella in the Vavuniya district, following information given by the woman who was nabbed on July 1st while carrying explosives hidden in a coconut shell.

According to the Vavuniya Police, this happens to be one of the biggest haul of arms found in a single place by the STF. The recovered items include land mines each weighing over 11 kg, five Claymore mines, four hand grenades, five detonators, four Claymore stands, mobile phones, batteries and a stock of wire.

The suspect, along with two companions was arrested by the Police. According to the Police, they have been engaged in smuggling these weapons from the un-cleared areas for the past three months and the LTTE has in turn provided them unbelievable perks and rewards.

The terrorists have provided them a three wheeler and millions in cash. The Police found these aims concealed in the roof.

Again, on Wednesday (2) Vavuniya Police recovered over 4 kg of explosives hidden in a barrel at the Siddambarapura IDP camp on information provided by the same woman who was arrested with explosives in coconut shell on Tuesday on the Vavunia-Horowpathana road at a roadblock. (See Situation Report Highlights on 2nd July)

The woman was travelling in a private bus to the Siddambarapura IDP Camp in Vavuniya when it was stopped at the checkpoint. These explosives were neatly stacked in four coconut shells when they were detected by the Police. The Police cordoned off the IDP camp and surrounding areas and carried out a search operation Wednesday (2) morning.
