Troops of the 611 Infantry Brigade under the 61 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ-West, identifying the pathetic plight of a widowed mother of three children took steps to build a new house for them in Rambukkana following the sponsorship offered to the Army by People’s Bank Regional Head Office in Kegalle.
8 Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 8 Battalion Gemunu Watch troops under the 611 Infantry Brigade undertook the responsibility for construction of this house for the deserving widow, Mrs. K.A Nilimini Dilrukshi, a mother of three children who had been living without a proper shelter.
The 611 Infantry Brigade Commander on being informed of this humanitarian need reached out to the People’s Bank in Kegalle for assistance for raw materials. On Thursday (6 July), the new house constructed by the troops in Eriyagoda Grama Niladari Division, Rambukkana was opened and warmed by Major General D. M. K. D. B Pussella RWP RSP, Commander, Security Forces - West as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division and the Commander, 611 Infantry Brigade.
Regional Manager of the People's Bank, Kegalle joined the inaugural ceremony as the Guest of Honour, together with several Bank officials. During the ceremony, the beneficiaries were also awarded several pieces of furniture, gift items and a few essentials as gifts.
People's Bank came forward to erect this humanitarian need on account of its 62nd anniversary. The warming ceremony included religious rites and rituals and milk-pot boiling after the symbolic replica of the keys to the new house was received by the family.
Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army has been in touch with the ongoing house construction projects of the Army for the needy across the country and instructed all troops to actively support it due to prevailing economic constraints.
During the same ceremony, all Army personnel, committed to the cause were also given certificates of appreciation by the Chief Guest and respective commanders.
