Wheelchair tennis tournament Vijayabahu soldiers show colours

It was a show of strength, self-confidence, courage and commitment. Undeterred by negativities that befell their precious lives during the times of the gruesome warfare that claimed vital limbs of thousands of troops of the Armed Forces, the wheelchair-ridden Tennis players of the Sri Lanka Army once again showed their colours at Sri Lanka Tennis Courts, Colombo 7.

Last Friday's (August 27) Inter Regimental Wheelchair Tennis Tournament, attended by a huge gathering of spectators saw players attached to the Vijayaba Regiment emerges victorious beating sportsmen of seven other Battalions of different Regiments.

The tournament, sponsored by Abans Company Ltd produced Corporal M. D. J. K Manatunge, Vijayabahu Regiment as the overall winner (Singles). In the event (Doubles) too Corporal Manatunga and Pte. J. Berty Silva of the same Regiment grabbed success after giving a tough fight against Pvt. B. M Basnayake (Doubles) and Pte. I. D Sarath (1st Runners-up)

Major D.D.K.P. Amarasekara, the Commanding Officer Headquarters battalion Vijayabahu Infantry regiment graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
