The Directorate of Training in collaboration with the Directorate of Legal as per directions given by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army launched an awareness programme on legal matters with the objective of educating Officers and Other Ranks on service with special focus on relative legal issues on Wednesday (20) at the Panagoda cantonment indoor stadium.
During the awareness programme, Mr. Kaushalya Nawaratne, President, Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Ms Priyani Rathnayaka, Senior Attorney at Law, Mr. Janaka Bandara, Deputy Solicitor General, Mr. Shavendra Fernando, President’s Counsel, Mr. Amal Randeniya, Senior Attorney at Law and Mr. Gamini De Alwis, Senior Attorney at Law delivered lectures on the subject of ‘Divorce Law’, ‘Offences Committed in Cyberspace’, ‘Criminal Defamation and Relevant Amendments to the Existing Laws’, ‘Terrorism Act and Emergency Regulations’, ‘The Laws Relating to Dissolving the Protests under the Criminal Procedure Code’, ‘Laws Relating to Domestic Violence’ and ‘Laws Relating to Dangerous Drugs Ordinance Rehabilitation of Drugs Addicted Persons’.
While the lecture session was on, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army on whose directions the project was launched joined the audience and listened to the lectures. Accordingly, more than 150 Officers and 850 Other Ranks serving at Army Headquarters and the Security Force Headquarter -West participated in the awareness programme.
At the end of the session, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army presented mementos to the guest lecturers.
Major General U.D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc, Commander Security Forces-West, Major General S.R.B Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc, Adjutant General of the Army, Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Director General General Staff of the Army, Major General S.A.N.D Edirisinghe RWP RSP psc Hdmc, Director General of Directorate of Operations and few other Senior Officers also took part in the programme.
