The Wennappuwa Business Union (WBU) with the sacred intention of assisting students of fallen and disable War Heroes, resident in the area, gave away scholarships to 40 students of Ranaviru families and 60 others, selected from low-income group families during a ceremony on Sunday (8).
The distribution ceremony, graced by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake as the Chief Guest, saw each student, receiving a scholarship to the value of Rs 10,000/= until they complete their GCE O/L studies.
Organizers soon after the conclusion of the distribution ceremony presented a memento to the Chief Guest in appreciation of his acceptance of the invitation and his participation.
The arrangement, initiated by members of the WBU was attended by Ven. Angampitiye Sumangala Thero, Chief incumbent, Dummaladeniya Raja Maha Viharaya, Rev. (Fr) Priyanjeewa Gunaratne, Principal, Joseph Vass College, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, Executive members of the WBU, invitees, parents and scholarship recipients.
It was held at Sampath Reception Hall, Dummaladeniya, Wennappuwa on Sunday (8). The Chief Guest on arrival at the premises was welcomed by the Chairman and the Secretary of the WBU and conducted to the hall.
