Chief of the Army Staff of Pakistan Army, General Raheel Sharif at the invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart, Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, arrived in Sri Lanka on a 4 day official visit Friday (5) evening.
A red carpet reception, coloured by traditional dancers greeted him on arrival at the tarmac at the Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport.
Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army, together with Mrs Nayana De Silva, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) afterwards, extended a warm welcome to General Sharif and his spouse, Mrs Begum Fariha Raheel before they were ushered to the VIP lounge.
The visiting Pakistan’s Army Chief and his spouse exchanged greetings with his Sri Lankan counterpart and Mrs Nayana De Silva before the visiting delegation, was introduced to the senior officers present at the airport.
Before their departure to Colombo, the visiting Army Chief signed the VIP Visitors’ Book at the lounge. During his stay in Sri Lanka, the visiting Army Chief is scheduled to call on President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, State Minister of Defence, Defence Secretary, High Commissioner for Pakistan, Chief of Defence Staff, Commanders of Navy and Air Force, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - West and a few others.
His delegation comprises the spouse of General Raheel Sharif, Mrs Begum Fariha Raheel, Major General Azhar Abbas, Mrs Begum Sadia Azhar, the spouse of Major General Abbas, Colonel Muhammad Qasim, Captain Umer Sajjad and two more persons.
A separate parallel reception programme, organized by Mrs Nayana De Silva, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit for the spouse of the visiting Army Chief, Mrs Begum Fariha Raheel, will get underway on Saturday (6) at the Army Seva Vanitha Unit Headquarters.
