War Veteran Lieut Gen Denzil Kobbekaduwa and his Fellow War Heroes Commemorated

Death anniversary of fallen War Hero Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa who made the supreme sacrifice thirteen years ago along with other fellow- war heroes in an LTTE explosion at Araly point in Kayts, was commemorated at the monument in Araly point with the participation of members of the Armed Forces and the Police on Monday (08).

To begin the day's proceedings, Commander Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna Major General Sunil Tennakoon placed a floral wreath at the foot of the monument. Senior Officers of the three forces and the Police and other rankers present followed suit.

Representative Senior Officers recalled memories of late War Heroes and paid glittering tributes to their leadership after delivering memorial speeches on the occasion.

In memory of War Hero Major General I. C. K. M. Wijaya Wimalaratne RWP RSP VSV USP psc, pioneer of the Gajaba Regiment a series of ceremonies, including distribution of meal packets to school children at Sandamalgama, dry ration parcels to the needy at Mankadawala and Saliya Mawatha and an alms-giving to Ikirigollewa temple have also been organized with the help of all ranks in the Regiment.

Meanwhile, another chain of meritorious activities were separately spearheaded by Armed Forces at Vauniya and Mrs. Laly Kobbekaduwa, widow of the slain War Hero Lt.Gen. Kobbekaduwa. Distribution of dry ration parcels, agricultural equipment, school needs, clothes and other essentials to families in Tantirimale and Wannihelambeweva and also special religious activities at Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi and Lankaramaya marked the commemorative event.
