War Heroes Children Gifted with Swimming Pool &;amp; Activity Building

HIS EXCELLENCY, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, in the company of a galaxy of administrative, defence and service chiefs, War Heroes and parents and kids made the time on Monday (7) morning to declare open the new Swimming Pool and the new Activity Building complex at the Defence Services College (DSC), Malay Street, Colombo 02.

The new five-storied building for common facilities was erected by Sri Lanka Army Engineers at a cost of Rs 260 million, offering the same antique colonial look, similar to that of the existing magnificent structures of some 132 years old which had been used as military garrisons during colonial masters. It houses an auditorium, an indoor stadium, a canteen, an aesthetic centre and a well-equipped library. The new swimming pool, constructed by Sri Lanka Air Force engineers is 25 m long with 6 lanes.

The DSC, a long-felt need for children of Tri-service personnel and the Police saw its birth three years ago on a concept, mooted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief with unstinted cooperation and administrative support, extended by Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Public Security, Law and Order. It has now achieved National School status and provides education to estimated 580 students. The development of the college is to span within a few years with a cost of Rs 1 billion in toto.
