Wanni Vesak Arrangements Open New School &;amp; Conduct Varied Programmes

 

To coincide with the annual Vesak festival, a new school built by Army troops for recently resettled people in Bogaswewa, Vavuniya was opened by Major General (retd) G.A Chandrasiri, Governor for Northern Province in the company of Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) on Thursday (23).

On hearing that Bogaswewa students lack a school of their own, the Northern Governor took the initiative in this connection and mustered the support of Army troops in the area for speedy construction.

Coinciding with the opening of the school on Thursday (23), 25 push bicycles, agricultural tools, manure and school items to the value of Rs 15 lakhs were distributed among students and civilians in the area during the same opening ceremony. In addition, 15 employment openings, offered by Hidramani Company Ltd were also shared among unemployed youths in the village.

Ven Etambagaskada Kalyanathissa Nayaka Thero, General Officer Commanding, 56 Division, senior officers at SFHQ-W and a large gathering attended the occasion.

Meanwhile, SFHQ-W troops on account of Vesak made elaborate arrangements in Vavuniya area. Offer of alms (Daana) to hundreds of Sil observers at Etambagaskada Sri Sudharmarama Viharaya, exhibition of colourful Vesak lanterns at Vavuniya Bodhi Dakshinaramaya, conduct of devotional songs, jointly presented by Army soldiers and school students and display of a huge Vesak lantern at 56 Division Headquarters premises were among major features that got underway with participation of the troops.

Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Wanni has given the direction in relation to these Vesak arrangements. An evening treat of sago dessert, given free of charge to all Vesak sight-seers attracted a large gathering as dusk began to fall.
