Wanni Troops Provide Residential Facilities to 925 Families

Situated covering a vast patch of dense jungles and cultivations, the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-Wanni) in Vavuniya, no doubt has been rendering essential services, related to national security, peacekeeping, reconciliation and for the livelihood of deserving people has to-date constructed a total of 925 new houses after the humanitarian operations ended in May 2009.

While committing to peace and security in Vavuniya, Mannar and Anuradhapura districts in the Wanni region, a beacon of hope has arisen amidst the challenges of poverty and homelessness. With these challenges, a ray of hope shines as the Army along both local and foreign organizations, donors, volunteers, and concerned citizens join hands together to construct houses for those in need.

On the directions of successive Commanders of the Army, Army personnel since 2009 through the coordination of the Security Force HQ - Wanni, have taken the initiative to break the cycle of homelessness in Wanni region and this effort exemplifies the transformative power of Army initiative projects that are dedicated to uplifting the lives of those who are most vulnerable. This attempt is not just about bricks and mortars but is a genuine and profound effort to restore dignity to the lives of innocent people. This endeavour doesn't merely offer a roof over their heads but it’s an investment in the future of those recipients who have long yearned for stability and a fresh start.

Until this year, Wanni troops to their credit with their technical expertise and manpower had constructed 925 houses and vested them in needy families.

As at present, construction of 02 new houses for the poor is underway under the guidance and selfless efforts of the Wanni Commander, respective General Officers Commanding and Brigade Commanders serving the Security Force HQ - Wanni.

The initiative’s success lies in its commitment to long-term sustainability. It’s not just about providing housing for the present moment but creating a lasting impact. Families are provided with tools and resources to maintain their homes and build a better future for themselves. This approach not only ensures the well-being of individual families but also contributes to the overall development of the region.

The construction of houses for the needy in the Wanni area exemplifies the power of collective action of the Army and other community-driven initiatives. By addressing the critical need for proper housing, this endeavor is restoring hope, dignity, and opportunity to those who have been marginalized. As families move into their new homes, they are not only stepping into a physical structure but moving towards a brighter and a more secured future. In the process, the initiative is not just building houses; it’s building a stronger, more vibrant community that is poised to overcome the challenges of the past and embrace the promise of a better tomorrow.
