Giving a further boost to the ongoing welfare projects of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W), Major General Jagath Gunawardena, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni (SF-W) joined distribution of 30 artificial limbs among the needy in 21, 54 and 61 Division areas in the Wanni on Thursday (30).
The sponsorship for those life support equipment was made available by the sponsors, Centre for Handicapped in Kandy after the humanitarian need was brought to the notice of those sponsors. The selection of those beneficiaries was made in consultation with regional state officials and Civil Affairs Officers of respective Army formations.
The Civil Affairs Officer of the SFHQ-W, Lieutenant Colonel Janaka Ratwatte coordinated the entire event. The Centre for the Handicapped in Kandy came forward to sponsor these sets of artificial limbs, which are worth over Rs 2 million at the request of the SFHQ-W.
Major General Jagath Gunawardena as the Chief Guest and Mr Shantha Attanayake and his staff members of the Centre for Handicapped in Kandy were present at the occasion as guests of honour.
The Brigadier General Staff (BGS), Brigadier Administration and Quartering (BAQ), Civil Affairs Officers, along with Senior Staff Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the SFHQ-W and civilians too were present at the occasion.
