A multitude of projects including religious observances, breakfast treat to an orphanage, military honours, planting of tree saplings, distribution of school accessories, sports events, social get-togethers, etc, dominated the 16th anniversary celebration of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) on Wednesday (26).
Arrangements got to a start, giving prominence to religious observances of all major faiths on the directions of Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W.
Accordingly, a special prayer service was conducted at Holy Madhu Shrine with the participation of a group of officers and soldiers on Monday (24). On the same day, Hindu religious observances were performed at the sacred Mundimurippu Hindu Temple in Vavuniya, followed by Islamic prayers at the Jumma Mosque, Medawachchiya.
A special Bodhi Pooja at Vijayasri Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya temple was conducted in the same evening to invoke blessings.
The following day, a representative group of officers and soldiers took breakfast to the inmates at Saliyapura Home for the mentally-retarded and gave away a stock of clothes after the breakfast was over.
The anniversary celebrations reached their peak when the troops accorded a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour to the Wanni Commander, Major General Boniface Perera at the SFHQ-W premises. After the military ceremony, a fellow-lunch was attended by all the troops serving the SFHQ-W.
A donation of school accessories to the students at Jesupuran pre-school also took place during the same day.
However, an exhibition volleyball match that had been planned, had to be postponed due to inclement weather.
A musical evening brought anniversary arrangements to an end.
