With a view to readying for any emergency, the Security Force HQ-Wanni managed to convert 5 places to serve as COVID-19 Intermediate Care Centres (ICCs) in the event of any emergency as directed by General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.
Commander Security Forces-Wanni Major General Hemantha Bandara, together with General Officers Commanding in 21 ,54 and 56 Divisions accordingly converted the Economic Center at Vavuniya (200 beds), Turkey City Private School, Mannar (120 beds) Wahamalugollewa Centre (250 beds), Civil Security Depatment HQ at Galkiriyagama (150 beds) and the Civil Security Department HQ at Nithiyagama, Mihinthale (100 beds). The total number of beds, thus prepared at those ICCs is 820 in total.
The establishment of those places was supported by the District Secretary and the Regional Director of Health Services for both Anuradhapura and Vavuniya Districts in close collaboration with Security Forces. The converting of those five places, situated in both North Central Province and Northern Province was carried out within a few days in response to the government's emergency mechanism.
