Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force Headquarters (SLAVF) began its first working day in 2014 in a ceremony attended by Major General Prasad Samarasinghe, Commandant, SLA Volunteer Force Headquarters at Kosgama, SLAVF premises.
In accordance with customary practices, the Commandant and the Deputy Commandant hoisted the National Flag and the SLAVF flag respectively, to mark the first day in office. Next, they observed a one-minute silence to remember fallen War Heroes.
Following events afterwards lined up in the day’s programme of the volunteers. Reading of the state service commitment pledge and the new year message – 2014 of Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army and the Commandant’s address to the SLAVF staff were among them.
Major General W.D.L.L Wickramasinghe, Deputy Commandant, senior officers, officers and other ranks joined with the Commandant to make the event a success.
The day’s programme ended after opening of the much-needed welfare canteen in the premises. It was declared by Commandant for the use of all ranks.
