The Inter-Regiment Volleyball Championship-2014, organized by the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF), came to a close on Friday (28) at the Indoor Stadium, Regimental Headquarters Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) Ambepussa.
Major General Lalith Daulagala, Commandant, SLAVF graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The Chief Guest on arrival at the premises was warmly welcomed and ushered to the stadium in procession. Afterwards, the two teams selected to the final match of the Volleyball Championship and the judges of the game were introduced to the Chief Guest.
The SLAVF volleyball players of Regiments/Corps including Women Corps entered the fray in the Championship which commenced on Monday (24).
Sri Lanka Light Infantry secured the Men’s Trophy with an overwhelming victory of 3-0 against Sri Lanka Army Service Corps after an exciting battle which brought pleasure and delight.
Brigadier W.A.N.M Weerasinghe, Principal Staff Officer gave away trophies and certificates to the winners of the ‘A’ Division. The players of the Gemunu Regiment, Sri Lanka Engineers and the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment respectively received championship, 1st runners-up and 2nd runners-up trophies in the tournament.
Presentation of trophies and certificates to the 2 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps team who emerged the second runner-up at the Women’s competitions was done by Mrs Helen Perera, the spouse of Brigadier W.W.M.G.R Perera.
Mrs Deepika Wickremasinghe, the spouse of Major General W.D.L.P Wickramasinghe gave away Women’s Trophies and certificates to the Champion, 4 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps team and the Runners-up, 3 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps.
Afterwards, Major General W.D.L.P Wickremasinghe gave away the trophies and certificates to the winners in the Super-8 round. The players of the Engineer Service Regiment, Sri Lanka Army Service Corps and Sri Lanka Light Infantry received their medals and certificates, being the 2nd Runners up, 1st Runners-up and the Champions respectively at the SLAVF Inter-Regiment Volleyball Championship-2014.
Major General Daulagala presented the presentation of trophies to the winners who displayed the best performances at the Championship.
The closing ceremony was attended by Major General W.D.L.P Wickramasinghe, Deputy Commandant, SLAVF, the Principal Staff Officer Brigadier W.A.N.M Weerasinghe, Centre Commandant of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Brigadier B.A.L Rathnayake, Brigadier Administration Brigadier W.W.M.G.R. Perera, Brigadier Logistics Colonel K.T.S Gunawardena, Officers and Other Ranks of the SLAVF.
