Visually & Hearing-impaired 21 Jaffna Undergrads & State Officials Follow 'SFHQ-J's Sign ' Language Course

Security Force HQ-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) with a view to further promoting gestures of reconciliation and humanitarian assistance recently launched a near 6-month long Course to teach Sign Language for 21 peninsula-based deaf and visually-impaired Jaffna University undergraduates and state officials on a suggestion, made by Major General Priyantha Perera, Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna.

Organized jointly by the 'Vidu' Non Governmental Organization at Kankesanthurai Reconciliation Centre, Vadamarachchi Association for Deaf & Blind People and the Sri Lanka Army, this special Course was conducted nearly for six months in close collaboration with the Kankesanthurai Reconciliation Centre, Sitthankerni Reconciliation Centre and Kopay Reconciliation Centre which were also established by the SFHQ-Jaffna on an initiative of the Jaffna Commander, a few months back.

These three Reconciliation Centres at Kankesanthurai, Sitthankerni and Kopay, actively involved in civil-military humanitarian projects supported the training of those visually and hearing-impaired undergrads and state officials with the support of outside resource personnel, including experts in the relevant field.

The certificate-awarding ceremony for all 21 Course attendees took place on Thursday (8) during a brief ceremony at 'Thal Sevana' Holiday Resort, headed by Major General Priyantha Perera, Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna.
