Visiting Indian Army Volleyball Team Beats SL Army Players

The second friendly Volleyball match played between teams of Sri Lanka Army and the visiting Indian Army Saturday (28) evening at Kahawatta public grounds offered a marginal victory to the Indian Army’s Volleyball team 5-3 points after a close tussle.

However Thursday’s (26) match at Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo brought victory to the Sri Lankan Army team (3-2) points.

Long-lasting bonds of mutual understanding, friendship and goodwill that exist between Sri Lanka Army and Indian Army continue to grow further with the re-introduction of exchange of sports programmes to both organizations.

Arrival of the Indian Army Volleyball team in Sri Lanka on Wednesday (25) to have two friendly matches at Colombo Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium and Kahawatta Public Grounds on Thursday (26) and Saturday (28) respectively at the invitation of the Army Sports Board, serves a fillip to further enhancement of such exchange programmes in the future too, following initiatives taken by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya.

The Army Chief during his interactions with visiting Indian senior Army officers in the recent past requested them to recommence this exchange programme for betterment of both armies.

As recent as April 16-21, a football team of the Army flew to Kolkata, India and clinched victory against their counterparts during a friendly football tournament.
