VIR Troops Carry Para Beach Volleyball Championship


The Inter Regiment Para Beach Volleyball Tournament, competed by 10 teams of different Army Regiments on the Beach Volleyball Court of the Corps of Engineers for two days (August 13 and 14) made the players of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) Champions after beating Gajaba Regiment (GR) players in the finals.

Corps of Engineers of the Sri Lanka Army organized this event under the Army Para Sports Tournament - 2013 programmme on the directions of Brigadier Jagath Gunawardena, Centre Commandant, Corps of Engineers.

The final tussle was witnessed by Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Military Secretary of the Sri Lanka Army as the Chief Guest. Brigadier Jagath Gunawardene, Centre Commandant of the Corps of Engineers, Colonel D K A Piyasena, Chief of the Staff of the Corps of Engineers and several other Army officers watched the day’s proceedings.

Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe as the Chief Guest on the occasion gave away the Championship Trophy and other merit awards to the players.
