VIR Soldiers Offer Their Blood to Patients at Jaffna Teaching Hospital

Soldiers of the 1st Battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (1 VIR), based at Vellvetithurei, organized a blood donation campaign to mark the 29th anniversary of the Battalion, responding to a request for blood from the Jaffna Teaching Hospital blood bank. The event took place at their camp premises on Thursday (21).

Commanding Officer of the 1 VIR, Lieutenant Colonel Dammika Jayarathne assisted Other Officers and All Rankers to get the programme organized.

A medical team of the Blood Bank in the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, along with its staff gave their full assistance to the arrangement.

With the blessings of the Commander of the Army, the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna, commanded by Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi has taken the lead to support it.

It was brought to the notice that prevailing blood stocks in the Jaffna Teaching Hospital were fast decreasing. More than 109 soldiers including the Commanding Officer donated blood during the campaign. In addition, Officers and Soldiers of the 521 Brigade, 5 VIR, 16 (V) VIR and 22 SLNG also joined voluntarily after watching the blood donation campaign.
