VIR Ruggerites Emerge Winners in Kandy Rugby 10s Tournament

Ruggerites of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) of the Sri Lanka Army won the Kandy Rugby Academy-organized ‘Rugby 10s Tournaments for both ‘Cup’ and ‘Plate’ Championships after a very close tussle against the Harfa Rugby Academy and Guardians counterparts respectively at Bogambara Rugby grounds in Kandy during 9-10 December.

The Archers group ‘A’ and Archers group ‘B’, clinched victory bagging 30 - 00 Points and 07-05 points against Harfa Rugby Academy and Guardians Sports Club respectively on Sunday (10) encounters at Bogambara grounds in Kandy.

The Kandy Rugby 10s - 2017 tournament was organized by the Kandy Rugby Academy with the assistance of the Sri Lanka Rugby football union.

The scoreboard was very much in favour of VIR Rugby players since the beginning of the match.

Archer’s sports club represented two teams in open 7s category and secured both Cup and Plate championships.

Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Colonel of the Regiment, VIR who was also a former Rugby player was one behind this achievement.

Several Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and members of the Rugger Clubs attended the event.
