VIR New Colonel of the Regiment Assumes Office

The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment HQ at Boyagane ceremonially welcomed its new Colonel of the Regiment, Major General S.R.B Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc on Wednesday (11 October) in the presence of Regimental Council Members, Senior Officers, Commanding Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and civil staff.

Upon arrival, he was welcomed by the Regimental Centre Commandant at the main entrance and was accorded a Guard Turnout. By giving due respect to fallen war heroes who made a supreme sacrifice to safeguard the motherland from terrorists during three decades of war, Major General S.R.B Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc afterwards laid a flower wreath at the fallen war heroes’ monument and PWV recipients` monument before he was saluted in a ceremonial parade at the parade square.

Giving prominence to religious traditions, Major General S.R.B Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc took over duties after leaving his signature for an official document to signify the acceptance of new responsibilities amidst chanting of ‘Pirith’. Leaving another memory, the incoming Senior Officer planted a sapling in the Regimental Centre compound, and later posed for group photographs.

A few minutes later, the new Colonel of the Regiment addressed the troops before an All-Rank tea arrangement brought the day’s event to an end.
