VIR Marks Its 35th Anniversary

The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) commemorated its 35th Anniversary at the Regimental Centre, Boyagane, under the guidance of Major General K.A.W.N.H Bandaranayake USP, Commander of Security Forces - Central and Colonel of the Regiment VIR on 22 March 2025.

As part of the celebrations, the Regiment organised a special lunch for residents of the Mallawapitiya Elders’ Home and Maliyadeva Boys’ Home on 15 March 2025. In a community service initiative, troops also renovated the roof of the cancer ward at the Teaching Hospital - Kurunegala.

An overnight ‘Pirith’ chanting ceremony was conducted on 18–19 March 2025, followed by an almsgiving to the Maha Sangha, invoking blessings on the Regiment and honouring its fallen war heroes.

On the Anniversary day, the Colonel of the Regiment was accorded a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour before paying floral tributes to fallen heroes. He then addressed all ranks, appreciating their dedication. In recognition of outstanding contributions to disaster relief efforts and excellence in both foreign and local training courses, certificates and awards were presented to selected Officers and Other Ranks.

The celebrations concluded with an all-rank lunch, fostering camaraderie among the troops.
