A customary Army formality, held at the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) Headquarters at Boyagane on Friday (19) saluted the newly-promoted Major General D.M.D.C.D Gunawardena of the VIR upon his arrival at the premises after his elevation to the new rank.
A Guard Turnout at the entrance to the Regimental Headquarters plus a Guard of Honour parade honoured him in accordance with military formalities after he was welcomed by the VIR Centre Commandant at the gate.
At the outset, the memory of War Heroes was recalled by him after placing a floral wreath at the monument before he was extended best wishes by Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Colonel of the Regiment, VIR who was attending the occasion as the Chief Guest. He added memories to the occasion by awarding a special memento to the newly-promoted Senior Officer.
