VIR Champions in Inter Regiment Novices' Boxing Tournament

The Army Inter Regiment Novices' Boxing Tournament got underway at the Army Physical Training School, Panagoda from May 30 to June 02 with the participation of 11 Male teams and 02 Female teams showcasing exceptional sports skills.

In the men's category, the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) clinched the championship of the tournament securing 05 Gold, 01 Silver and 02 Bronze medals pushing the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) to be the runners-up with 03 Gold, 01 Silver and 01 Bronze medals.

In addition, the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) ended up in the 3rd place achieving 02 Gold, 03 Silver and 03 Bronze medals. Moreover, the Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) and the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) secured 4th and 5th places respectively.

In the meantime, Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) and Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) teams became joint champions achieving 02 Gold and 02 Silver medals in the women’s category. Rifleman R.M Pushpakumara of the SLSR won the Best Boxer award and Private P.D.R Madubashana was awarded the Best Loser award in the entire tournament.

Brigadier P.A.M Peiris RSP USP psc, Director, Directorate of Sports graced the finals as the chief guest and awarded medals and trophies to the achievers. Brigadier E.M.G.A Ambanpola, Centre Commandants of respective Regiments, Senior Officers, members of the Army Boxing Committee, Officers and Other Ranks also took part in the event.
