VIR is 26 Years of Age

Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) celebrated their 26th anniversary under the directions of Major General K.C Gunawardena Colonel of the Regiment - VIR at the Regimental Centre, Boyagane on Tuesday (22).

A Guard Turnout plus a Guard of Honour greeted the Colonel of the Regiment in accordance with the military formalities. 

The Regimental monthly magazine ‘Dunuwaya’ was released on the same occasion.

As one segment of the day’s itinerary, newly-built Water Purifying Centre was opened by the Colonel of the Regiment. 

Meanwhile, the Colonel of the Regiment gave away, 20 pair of sports shoes to the officers who won the marathon competition which was held recently. 

After the formal troop address and planting of 300 tree saplings at the Regimental premises, ended the first phase of the day’s programme.

An all-night pirith chanting and the alms giving ceremony to 26 monks, was conducted on the following day morning. 

The council members, Officers & other rankers participated in the occasion.
