The Vijayabhahu Infantry Regiment’s (VIR) Regimental HQ (RHQ) at Boyagane in conformity with traditions greeted and extended felicitations to two of its newly-promoted Majors General Sisira Pilapitiya, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division and Nishantha Manage, General Officer Commanding, 53 Division, having invited both of them to the RHQ premises on Saturday (7).
Upon their arrival, Brigadier Sisira Herath, Centre Commandant at Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) RHQ warmly received the day’s Chief Guests and subsequent Guard Turnouts at the entrance greeted them separately in accordance with military formalities.
Then, giving pride of place to the memory of all fallen VIR War Heroes, Major General Sisira Pilapitiya and Major General Nishantha Mange, laid floral wreaths at the War Heroes’ Monument and the separate Parama Weera Vibuhushana Monument and paid their tribute in a solemn ceremony.
A few seconds later, the Parade Commanders invited the day’s protagonists to review the Guard of Honour, accorded in their honour and receive the salutes, indeed a combined rare spectacle at any RHQ for that matter.
After a while, both of them posed for group photographs with Officers and Senior Non Commissioned Officers as gestures of memory. Afterwards, they were invited to refreshments where both of them were awarded mementos as tokens of appreciation and pleasure over their achievements.
