At the request of villagers of Kombavil in Puthukkudiiruppu, Mullaittivu, troops in the 68 Infantry Division of the Security Force Headquarters-Mullaittivu offered their technical and manpower assistance for reconstruction and renovation of the ‘Kaata Pillaiyar’ Hindu Kovil.
The Chief Priest and villagers in appreciation of the Army’s commitment to the religious needs of the devotees on Sunday (3 Sept) conducted a special ‘Kumbabishekam’ blessing ceremony at the renovated ‘Kaata Pillaiyar’ Hindu Kovil inviting 68 Infantry Division’s General Officer Commanding, Major General S. Kasthurimudali RSP ndc psc, Colonel W.W.K Rohan RSP USP, Commander, 682 Infantry Brigade, Colonel J.M.W.K Jayalath, Colonel General Staff, 68 Infantry Division and Major R.M.R Ranaweera, Commanding Officer of 3 (Volunteer) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment as distinguished guests for the special ceremony.
A gathering of about 100 civilians and devotees participated in the reopening ceremony and the subsequent ‘Pooja’ at the renovated Kovil.
At the same time, 3 (Volunteer) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops of the 682 Infantry Brigade who did the renovation supported the ceremony by providing refreshments organized by the troops at own cost.
