Vietnamese President Offers Floral Tributes to Fallen War Heroes


The Socialist Republic of Vietnam President Truong Tan Sang currently in Sri Lanka on a three-day state visit at the invitation of HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa Friday (14) morning saluted fallen War Heroes by placing floral tributes at the Sri Jayawardenapura War Hero memorial at the Parliament grounds.

This is the first time a Vietnamese President is visiting Sri Lanka and paying floral tributes to the War Hero monument as a mark of his recognition of the numerous sacrifices of late Sri Lankan War Heroes.

The visiting President on arrival at the venue was received by Major General R.M.D Rathnayaka, Chief of Staff at Army Headquarters and Major General Kuma Herath, Adjutant General of the Army before he was conducted for wreath-laying. Before his exit from the venue, President Sang signed the VIP visitors’ book. 

On Thursday (13), President Sang with First Lady Mai Thi Hanh and a business delegation of sixty was warmly received at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport by President Rajapaksa and First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa in the company of Secretary to President and a gathering of senior Ministers, Deputy Ministers and State Officials.

A Guard of Honour plus a 21 gun salute, accorded in his honour by Sri Lanka Navy greeted the visiting Vietnamese President at the airport.
