Ven. Gunawansa Thero Assures More Support to Army Welfare Measures

VEN. ELLE GUNAWANSA THERO, Incumbent, Dharmayathanaya temple at Colombo 07 who has been very much concerned about the welfare of soldiers in the Army for the last couple of years met Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya Friday (9) morning and offered his continued support to welfare of disable War Heroes. 

Ven. Thera during his goodwill visit to the Commander elaborated on the string of welfare projects he himself has spearheaded in the in the recent past for the benefit of disable War Heroes in the Army and other services.

The visiting monk promised to make a separate wing of a commercial complex, now under construction at Pelawatta area available to the Army for the exclusive sale of products, being manufactured by disable War Heroes and simultaneously requested the Commander to take charge of the place upon completion of the construction.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya during the interaction recalled the support Ven. Thero extended during recently concluded Wanni humanitarian operations by way of collecting large stocks of drinking water bottles and other essentials for the use of War Heroes whilst the Wanni battles were on.

Ven. Gunawansa Thero further requested the Commander to take control of an estate of 50 acres at Ekala to be used as a nursery, so that disable War Heroes could be able to earn some extra money that can be utilized for the well-being of disable War Heroes and members of their families. The monk further specified that the decision to that effect was made by him since the Army, as one of the most disciplined outfits, would be the best to manage this estate with its manpower resources.

Ven. Gunawansa Thero told the Commander that he was pleased to see the series of housing projects and other welfare measures being implemented by Lieutenant General Jayasuriya as Army Chief.
