Troops of 26 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) under the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) coordinated the distribution ceremony of agricultural accessories and dry-ration packets among 100 needy villagers in resettled Veheratenna village.
The donation was made possible due to the generosity and the financial contribution, made by a Japanese delegation, headed by Ven. Gayonashilalo Thero of Ishikawa Temple, Japan. The distribution ceremony got underway at Veheratenna village on Friday (3) when the Japanese delegation, accompanied by Ven. Rajawelle Suboothi Thero, arrived at the village.
Under the programme, each packet of relief items consisted of a plastic basin, a coconut scraper, a small frying pan, a large frying pan, an aluminum pot, two pieces of soap, a washing brush, two towels, 2 tooth brushes, a tooth paste tube, two razors, a hairpin, 10 kgs of rice, a rake, a mammoty and a water sprinkling bucket to the value of about Rs. 427,600/=.
During the same ceremony, the Farmers Society at Veheratenna were donated 10 wheel barrows, 10 digging tools, 10 crowbars and 20 shovels to the value of Rs 62,500/=.
Civil Affairs Coordinator, 62 Division and Commanding Officer, 26 SLSR were also associated with these events.
