13 new houses, erected using donor funds at Veheratenna, Vavuniya, were ceremonially opened on Friday (5), following arrangements made by the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W).
All 13 houses received sponsorships from donors, including three houses, built alone by Mr Jithendra Gunaratne for the benefit of Veheratenna villagers who had come there for resettlement.
The cost of each house was restricted to Rs 3 lakhs with the labour provided by the Army gratis.
Meanwhile, on the same day, nutritional food parcels, sponsored by donors, Mr Yoga Perera, President, SLADAR and Mr H.M Seneviratne of Maharagama, were distributed among 50 pregnant women and 25 low-income group families of Veheratenna village.
Both events were witnessed by Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W as the Chief Guest in the company of Brigadier K.G.D Perera, General Officer Commanding, 62 Division, Brigadier J. Thanthriwatte, 623 Brigade Commander, Brigadier T.D Weerakoon, 622 Brigade Commander and a large gathering of civilians.
