Vavuniya Holds Commemorative Events to Coincide with Victory Day


A few more War Hero commemorative ceremonies to coincide with Colombo based ‘National Victory Day’ parade occurred in and around Vavuniya with initiatives of the 56 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) on Saturday (18). 

Troops serving the 56 Division Headquarters at Kokeliya, Vavuniya with the participation of chief priests at the main Hindu Kovil and the Buddhist temple in the area conducted special offerings and Poojas, transferring merits to fallen War Heroes and simultaneously invoking blessings on the country, her people and all Security Force personnel in service.

Similar religious ceremonies were conducted at Sri Sambuddha Raja Maha Viharaya, Sadawankulam Pullair Temple at Sinna Adampan and Nagarthambara Kovil at Nedunkerni, situated in the 561 Brigade area.

Meanwhile, troops in the 563 Brigade were instrumental in marking the event by way of organizing various commemorative ‘Pinkam’ (meritorious programmes) at Sandasiri Rajamaha Viharaaya at Selalihinigama, Namal Uyana Raja Maha Viharaya at Namalgama, Gaganatissa Raja Maha Viharaya at Bogaswewa and Hindu Poojas at Alagalla Pottakulam Kovil, Omanthai Kovil, Pallaivadi Kovil and Puliyankulam Kovil. 

Troops as well as ordinary civilians in those respective areas joined these commemorative ceremonies.
