233 Infantry Brigade troops of the 23 Infantry Division under the Security Force HQ - East (SF-E) with the objective of raising health standards of poor civilians in the areas, served by them organized a mobile medical clinic plus a distribution of 150 sets of school accessories and books to the value of Rs. 200,000/= to the students at Vakarai Maha Vidyalaya on Sunday (July 09).
Both projects were made possible with the sponsoring assistance provided by the Family Medical Department and the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Kelaniya. The medical clinic conducted vision testing, hearing and speech testing, BMI testing, blood pressure testing, random blood sugar testing, awareness programmes and a medical exhibition during the arrangement.
More than 200 civilians reached the mobile clinic at Vakarai Maha Vidyalaya and received consultations, medicines and underwent all free medical tests.
In addition, medicine and spectacles, worth about Rs. 250,000/= were distributed during the clinic. Colonel A.K.C.S De Silva RSP, Commander, 233 Infantry Brigade coordinated the programme with Professor Janaka Ramanayake, Dr Dinusha Perera and 31 other medical professionals in the university as one of the civil-military cooperation projects.
